chocolate chip + sea salt cookies

Last weekend my brother in law and his wife came into town to explore Santa Monica with us and we went to this bar, The Misfit. At the end of your meal, they bring you these delicious chocolate chip + sea salt cookies that are awesome. I had been wanting to make some cookies for Christmas, and while I normally go the sugar cookie with frosting route, I couldn't resist. I used this recipe and I was very happy with how they turned out.

I know this looks like wine, but it's cookies

Ingredients:
2 sticks butter (8 oz)
1/2 cup white sugar (2 oz )
1 3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed (12 oz )
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla (1/4 oz)
3 1/2 cup all purpose flour (1 lb. ) (I know this sounds like a lot, but it works out, trust)
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp salt
1 lb. chocolate chips
1/2 teaspoon good quality sea salt, for sprinkling on top before baking

Directions:
Cream the butter and the sugars until very light and fluffy, about 5 minutes on medium high. Scrape down the side of the bowl. Continue mixing while adding the eggs one at time. Make sure each egg is incorporated before adding the next. Add the vanilla.

Combine the flour, soda and salt in another bowl and combine with a whisk. With the machine on low, slowly add the flour. Mix until just combined, do not over mix. Stir in the chocolate. Spoon dough onto baking sheet. Then lightly sprinkle the dough with sea salt and bake at 350 for 9 minutes.

I used my Silpat to make these and I am in love! I had never used it before so I was suspicious about how they would turn out, but the Silpat is magical! Just put the Silpat on top of your cookie sheet like a liner, and they come out as perfectly as if you had sprayed the shit out of your cookie sheet with Pam. Seriously, the cookies slid around when I took them out of the oven. I highly recommend a Silpat*

*I was not compensated in anyway by Silpat for this post. I would totally take another one though, because someone in the house thought that you could use the Silpat as a cutting board. You can't.

These are awesome cookies and really easy to throw together. They were perfect as gifts and I'm really glad I made them. Oooh and I printed some cute gift tags from here. My favorite is the weird looking dog because it reminds me of my 8 year old niece.

Happy Holidays! And remember, it's not time for New Year's Resolutions, so you can eat the whole batch :)

I took a look at the gift tags and I'm very concerned that the very sad old looking dog reminds you of your 8 year old niece.

Haha well she loves chihuahuas and I know she would think that one is cute, even though he is kind of demented looking :)

  4. Those sound good!! Chocolate chip cookie dough doesn't taste as good without the salt in it, so I am sure the sea salt makes them extra good.

Have you ever had dessert hummus/chocolate chip cookie dough dip? It's stinking good, and that dough picture makes me want it.

    1. They are so good! There is some salt in the recipe, but the sea salt on top makes it even better.

I haven't, but it sounds amazing!
